Liz KeelAbout the Author: I live in Surrey, England, a short walk from the beautiful Windsor Park, with my husband Richard and our two gorgeous children Noah and Olivia. For me, writing is nothing short of an addiction and I often find myself sneaking out to my writing shed for just a few minutes, which can often turn into hours of pure, unadulterated bliss catching up with my characters and continuing their story. In-between writing, I teach in a primary school where there’s never a dull moment! I will also often be found Kindle in hand, reading a wide variety of genres but with YA fantasy and paranormal romance at the forefront of my reading list. Although I’m currently writing the second book in the Driel trilogy, other characters involving all things fantasy, paranormal and YA romance are jockeying for position, wanting me to write their story next, so watch this space! It is such a privilege to share my stories with you the reader. Thank you enough for taking the time to find out more about me. To find out more about Liz, visit her website: www.lizkeelauthor.com

Read below for an excerpt from Enlightenment:

The shaking wouldn’t stop and my whole body seemed to react to what I had re-lived…again. This time the man started walking towards me whilst I was trapped in the car, angrily shouting a message he was adamant I was going to hear. I did.
I knew I must have woken someone up this time as my screams continued to ring out much longer than normal. Eli was the first in and padded softly over to my bed, a sympathetic look on his face. Just as he sat down, his mom popped her head around the door. “All okay?” she asked.
I nodded in answer. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you… I just….” I stopped, shrugging helplessly, feeling embarrassed.
“It’s okay, just let me know if you need anything,” she said, sharing a look with Eli as she left.
“So the same again?” he asked.
“Yes, but there’s more,” I whispered apprehensively as I crawled into his lap. Hoping he wouldn’t think I was crazy, I told him about the man in the dream. I waited as he sat there thoughtfully rubbing the morning stubble that had appeared on his chin.
“Tell me again what he said.”
“That I had ruined everything and I was still going to die,” I said, my breath coming out in short gasps. I jumped up and began pacing around the room. “It seemed so real and I can’t shake this feeling that I know him from somewhere, or that I’ve met him before.”
As I stared distractedly out of the window into the pitch black night, I felt Eli’s arms come around me in a warm embrace. My shoulders sagged. His touch had the calming effect I needed and I let him lead me back to bed. Once again I snuggled into him and began to breathe more normally.
“Thea, it’s going to be okay, I know it may not seem it, but it will. I’m here for you, I….” And then he stopped. I felt like I knew what he was going to say and didn’t know if I could handle that right now, so I turned and gave him a weak smile, quickly thanking him before he could finish his sentence.
“It’s the first day of school tomorrow so we better get some sleep,” Eli replied, returning my smile. “Good night,” he said, kissing my forehead before he left.
Leela stared at me wistfully over the breakfast table. “But I wanna come,” she sniffed. “So does Buggles, don’t you?” she said, making the rabbit’s head bounce up and down.
“Not long until it’s your turn,” her dad said, ruffling her hair as he walked by.
“Ready?” Eli called to me as he came down the stairs.
“Ready as I’ll ever be,” I laughed and grabbed my bag, heading for the door.
“Have a good day!” Mrs Thompson said, kissing us both on the cheek, “and be safe,” she continued, giving Eli a meaningful look. I gave him a puzzled glance as she turned away: it was only school, after all. But he just shrugged and walked down the pathway with me in tow.
It was about a fifteen-minute walk to our bus stop down a long winding track, past the forest I loved so much. We started off in silence, both caught up in our own thoughts, and it wasn’t until we were at the turnpike that I got the uneasy feeling we were being watched. I glanced into the forest, trying to see if there was anything out of place, but all I was greeted with was the dense undergrowth. I think Eli noticed it too because he seemed to tense up, and put his arm protectively around me, which brought me to a stop.
In the next instant, three men dressed in black jumped out from the bushes. Two of them went straight for me whilst the third put out his hands towards Eli. Somehow, without even touching him, he managed to throw Eli backwards about ten feet, where he hit the floor and skidded to a halt. My screams for help were drowned out when one of the attackers clamped a cold, calloused hand over my mouth. I bit down hard, which elicited a shout in a foreign-sounding language. Luckily this was enough for him to release me, and I felt some sort of inner victory knowing that I had managed to hurt him, even if it was only just a little bit.

New Release: Tempting the Light by Bonnie Gill + Giveaway

Please help me welcome Bonnie Gill, author of Tempting the Light to the blog today.

Hello Everyone!

Thank you, Kimber for inviting me to guest post on your blog.

Writers have many different ways to come up with twists and turns for their stories. I made a video about some of the tools I use for my brainstorming. It’s my first time video blogging so I was kind of nervous.

Here’s the link.

I came up with my idea for my story TEMPTING THE LIGHT by watching a television show on the Jersey Devil. My writer brain took over and spun the idea. What would happen if my heroine changed into the Jersey Devil?

The next night my boyfriend was watching the movie Tommy Boy. The writer brain took over again. I can’t tell you how the two ideas merged because that would give spoilers away J
Thank you for reading my post.

About the Book

Closer To Sin FINAL
Title: Closer to Sin
Author: Elizabeth Squire
Genre: Historical Romance

Elizabeth Squire brings a fresh voice to historical romance in this tale of intrigue and passion.

CLOSER TO SIN

Liliane Desailly travels to Napoleonic France after receiving a plea for help from her French cousin. She learns she is the key to fulfilling her grandfather’s legacy, but to do so she must masquerade as a spy and courier secrets on behalf of the British Admiralty.

Sinclair Charlcroft is the British Admiralty’s last hope. Napoleon’s Grande Armée is poised to invade Britain, an English spy is missing and a traitor has infiltrated the Admiralty’s intelligence network.

Pursued by Napoleon’s agents, Liliane and Sinclair cannot reveal their true identities until they unlock the secrets of the legacy—and only then can they unlock the secrets in their hearts.

Author Bio

Elizabeth SquireElizabeth Squire’s love of writing romance couldn’t be further from the life she had carved out for herself. Raised in outback and rural Australia, Elizabeth was determined to live a life vibrant with passion, travel, adventure and discovery—other than the one she had already lived through the pages of the innumerable she read and loved. And so, turning her back on a life in the bush, she invested a lot of years chasing her dreams—she enjoyed a career as a commissioned in the Royal Australian Navy, and counts white-water rafting the Zambezi River, travelling by safari truck through Africa, and back-packing through Eastern Europe with her young family as just a few of her many adventures.

But amongst the adventure, the urge to write intensified as story lines and dialogue continued to materialise from the recesses of her mind. She finally accepted that the voices in her head were really characters enmeshed in the tumultuous Georgian and Regency periods, vying for life on paper.
After a nomadic lifestyle, Elizabeth has now settled into her own home and loves nothing better than bringing her passionate heroines and daring rakes to life. She lives with her own hero and one true love, two beautiful daughters and two delinquent miniature long-haired dachshunds. Closer to Sin is Elizabeth’s debut novel.

Meeting of the Mustangs by Cathy Kennedy

I am pleased to welcome Cathy Kennedy to the blog today with a post about her novel, Meeting of the Mustangs!

This is a kid's book written by a kid. Sort of. It's not exactly just for kids and it wasn't written only by a kid. This story began decades ago when I was around thirteen or fourteen years old, the best that I can recall. I know that I hadn't yet learned how to type. The first part of it was pecked out with one finger on an Olivetti typewriter. It was single-spaced and there were no margins to speak of, typed on heavy stock paper. Both the typewriter and the paper were given to me by my dad. I would sit at that typewriter in our old Victorian house and pound out the story of the wild horses. I guess after some time, I found more important things to do because it was abandoned at some point. While I went on with the business of life, that manuscript never left my possession. I often thought about it and pretty much knew how the story would continue and what the outcome would be, but I never actually wrote it down. Writer's Block is a real thing. Writing a book is not an easy task, and I finally convinced myself to finish it. Looking at that old manuscript, I knew that I first had to fix what was already there. Lots and lots of editing, although I wanted to try to keep it as intact as possible. It was challenging and very time-consuming, but, oh, how the computer helped! But enough about me. Here's my wild horses story. It's called Meeting of the Mustangs and you can find it at Amazon or other ebook retailers. If there's anyone out there who might be going through a similar dilemma, please know that it's not impossible. With today's technology and a fair amount of your time, you can let people read your creation without requiring a big, bad publisher. Maybe people will want to read it or maybe they won't, but that's not really the point, is it? I wish you determination, luck, and success!
~Cathy Kennedy~

A black colt is born into a band of wild mustangs and soon learns that life can often be difficult. Follow his story as he goes from a free spirit to being captured for profit, and discover how one man gains the trust and extreme loyalty of a very special horse.

About the Author

Cathy Kennedy spent the first years of her life growing up in Pennsylvania before moving to South Florida at age 17. She graduated from Atlantic High School in Palm Beach County and her professional life took her into the construction industry, where she was an Office Manager for twenty years. She is a history buff who also enjoys music, word puzzles, gardening, watching football, and the company of animals of all sorts. Her book, Meeting of the Mustangs, was started during her teenage years in Pennsylvania and would not be completed until many years later.

The story of the wild mustangs is somewhat reflective of her life living in the country, where her family owned horses. She wanted to complete the book for younger readers who have a love for horses, and finally convinced herself that she should continue the story where she'd stopped writing many years before.

She currently lives in Ohio with her husband and three rescued tuxedo cats.

EXCERPT:

He tucks his wings into himself, but they are still so close I could touch them. He walks a small circle around me. Still a dance.

“That’s very different,” he says.

“I don’t see how. I am human. They are my people.”

He bends forward until his face is inches from mine. “Your mother had passed. You needed me.
We’re allowed to appear when we are needed.”

His breath warms my cheek and it’s all I can do not to lean closer.

“Really?” My eyes search his for a sign—any sign—of feelings for me. “She died ten moons ago.”

Did only pity bring him? “Why did you stay?”

A light breeze ruffles the leaves overhead. It’s warm but welcome. Michael backs away, the tops of his cheeks lit with pink. He swallows and his Adam’s apple jumps in his throat. “Perhaps I needed you.”

His voice is music, and his energy hums through me, making me bold. I couldn’t imagine him needing anyone, least of all me. With a smile, I glance at him and hold up the feathery filament. A small piece of his magic, its light sparkles and plays along my hand, the lines of his throat and jaw, the front of his tunic.

“If I return this,” I say. “What will you give me in exchange?”

“Well.” He frowns and thoughtfully strokes his chin, but his eyes are still smiling. “What do you want? Riches and jewels aren’t mine to command. I am but a humble servant.”

“Can you make it rain? It would be good for my father’s crops.”

“You know I cannot,” he scolds. “Doing so would be interfering.”

I do know, but enjoy the game, the way he looks at me as though he sees something hidden deep inside me, the secret of who I am.

“How about a kiss?” I ask.

He casts his gaze to the ground and bows his head. “Of course. A blessing.” He rests his hands on my shoulders, and even that light touch scorches me. White-hot like the sun.

Closing his eyes, he leans in to kiss my forehead, but I want a real kiss. Not the kiss of an angel, but of a lover. I rise to my toes, lifting my chin, and press my lips to his.
