Don’t say I didn’t warn you…

When a kindly stranger does Chloe a good deed, she decides she must repay him. But in tracing him, she meets a sympathetic woman named Nadine, who warns Chloe to stay away from the man at all costs. “Give him nothing, tell him nothing, don’t trust him,” she says. “Avoid him like the plague.”

Chloe knows the sensible thing to do: walk away. But her curiosity gets the best of her. What is the truth about the good Samaritan? How dangerous could he be? And can Chloe find the answers without putting herself and her daughter in harm’s way?

A twisting, razor-sharp suspense story that will keep you guessing to the very end, The Warning features an appearance from Simon Waterhouse, next seen in the full-length thriller Woman With a Secret - already hailed as “mesmerizing” (Lisa Gardner) and “unputdownable” (Liane Moriarty).

Review: I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review

The Warning was a suspenseful, page-turning short story. What I found most intriguing were characters Chloe and Tom-- both were so odd and yet seemed to be a perfect match for the other. If you don't believe in love at first sight, then Tom and Chloe's behavior will confound you as it did me.

In fact, the only character with a clear head was Simon Waterhouse, the detective. His deduction skills were like something out of Criminal Minds. Definitely a character I'd want to read more about.

This is a very short story, so not much in the way of character development. But it did have a twist I didn't see coming. Overall, it was a nice diversion on a hot summer day-- about an hour or so on my Kindle.

Her song is full of magic, and he determines that her people must be connected to the deadly elixir. In exchange for her help, he is willing to risk his life to set her free. What he doesn’t expect, is to fall under her spell…

Excerpt

Her eyelids drooped. Half asleep, she didn’t hear the door to her room open. It shut with a soft click, startling her. She jerked to her feet and found a cloaked man standing inside her room. In the dim light, she recognized the Ambassador from Braemar, and gasped.

“Shh.” He held a gloved finger to his lips and waited like a coiled spring for several seconds.

Teya’s heart beat furiously. “What are you doing here?”

“It’s all right. I’ve come to get you out.”

“Are you crazy? It’s impossible. You’ll only get yourself killed. Believe me, it’s happened before. You should leave now before you get caught.”

His eyes widened in surprise. “You don’t want to be rescued?”

“Of course I do. But…it won’t work.”

He frowned. “I’m sorry you have so little faith in me, but I assure you, I can get you out.”

“Why would you do that?”

“I have my reasons, and I’ll tell you once we’re away.” He stepped further into the room and pushed his dark cloak back, revealing several tools and a long rope.

As he moved to the window, she stepped in front of him. “It won’t work. The king has guards everywhere, and I’m watched all the time. We’ll never get out of the palace, let alone the city. They’ll kill you.”

He considered her for a moment. “I have everything planned to the minute. I can get you out. Do you want to leave?”

His boldness shocked her, but he waited patiently while she gathered her wits. There was kindness in his eyes, and it was hard not to believe him. “Do you mean to keep me enslaved? Or can you take this off?” She lifted the kundar from her skin, hardly believing that she had the gall to challenge him.

Here was someone willing to get her out of this hell, and she was bargaining over the kundar? If she went with him, she would be out of her prison with a better chance of getting it off than she had now. She swallowed, regretting that she’d asked, but wouldn’t take it back now.

He stared at her with surprise. After a pause, he came to a decision. “I can’t guarantee anything. But even with it on, I can promise you more freedom than you have now.”

“So you can own me?” Defiance laced through her tone.

Review: I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

If you read my reviews, you know I have a tendency to pick up books in a series out of order. Sometimes a book hits my inbox that I can't resist-- such was the case with this one. No, I haven't read any other books in the series, but the series has been on my TBR for a while. It was funny actually... I was enjoying the book so much, I thought about setting it aside and reading all the rest first. But I was already so engrossed, I needed to read to the end.

Kitty Saves the World was an amazing read. It was fun, had intriguing characters, a quick pace, and a great plot. Kitty is now one of my favorite female leading ladies, and her mate, Ben, is equally wonderful. In fact all of the characters, including the baddies were well-written. I can't wait to go back and read all thirteen Kitty novels. Sure the plot was really interesting, but the characters were what drew me in to the point that I couldn't put the book down.

I loved the supernatural radio show-- what a fun idea. I got in just at the tail end of Kitty's saga, but it seemed that Rowan spent many hours making Kitty's life difficult. The pacing of the novel was tight with lots of action-- along with plenty of information to make the plot come to life. I liked the end game Ms. Vaughn created for her bad guys-- the closing action scenes were thrilling.

Speaking of endings-- I loved this ending. I don't say that often, I know. Kitty Saves the World was one of the most enjoyable books I've read all year. But don't do what I did. Start with book one :)

Elisabeth Knight has waited over eight months to get into the field, and just her luck, her first mission hits close to home in more ways than one. Not only does it involve rescuing her friend, a former NIO like herself, but her father assigns one of his former SEALs to assist—the one she’d given her body and heart to five years ago. Sam had walked away when he’d realized who her father was, and she let him, not wanting to see the sexy man shot, or worse, assigned to Antarctica…permanently. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Donna Michaels

It’s all my mother’s fault.

She read to me before I could read and opened up that magical world where I still reside today. Then came television and movies. Now I had three avenues that fed my imagination...and boy could I eat! As you no doubt figured out, this lead to my writing career. I’m a NY Times, USA Today, and Amazon Bestselling Award winng author. Phew, that was a mouthful! Multi-published in e-book and print with several publishers, I certainly have a ton of voices in my head.

I’m happily married to a military man for 28 years.  We have four children and several rescued cats. Michael’s been in the Army National Guard since before he graduated. The Guard has been a part of our lives right from the start. It was only natural for the military to spill into my writing.  God bless the military and their families. Thank you all for your sacrifices. ♥

You already know my mom inspired my love of reading, but it was my dad who got me hooked on movies. Even now, if I had the time, I could happily go from one movie to another all day long. They are the reason I love mixed genre and why I can’t just stick to just one in my writing, although, as you can tell, I have a soft spot for cowboys and the military.

Well, that’s about it. Thanks for getting to know me a little better. Remember, keep reading to your children. The journey you’re igniting is precious. And the next time you’re at the movies, turn around. I just might be the person sitting behind you. No, not the one throwing popcorn (it’s too expensive to waste). I’m the one already imagining the sequel.

Have a great day and thanks for reading!

You can find Donna either on......
Or of course by her
