Cover Reveal: Looking for Lucy Jo by Suzy Turner

Cover Reveal

Looking for Lucy Jo
Morgan Sisters #3

Suzy Turner

YA Urban Fantasy
Expected Release Date: September 20, 2014

It's their first Christmas since entering the Praxos Academy and 16-year-old sisters Lana Beth and Emma Jane Morgan are looking forward to some serious R&R. But when their little sister mysteriously disappears from her bed on Christmas Eve, all thoughts of fun disappear with her. Emma and Lana must do everything in their power to locate her and bring her home safely. Easier said than done, they are forced to go on yet another journey, this time taking them out to the murky depths of the North Sea as well as to the far reaches of southern Portugal.

Other Books in the Series

The Ghost of Josiah Grimshaw
Adopted sisters Lana Beth and Emma Jane are polar opposites, but when the same strange 'tattoo' suddenly appears and winds its way up their bodies within days of each other, they soon realize there's more to their relationship than they could ever have imagined.
Sent off to London for two weeks of 'work experience', the Morgan Sisters soon find themselves being initiated into the ancient Praxos Foundation, one that protects the innocent while fighting evil, both human and supernatural.
At the same time, Lana Beth and Emma Jane must also investigate why the sweet but sometimes pesky ghost of Josiah Grimshaw just won't leave them alone.

What people are saying about The Ghost of Josiah Grimshaw
"I would go so far as to say that this book could be the beginnings of a series as good as those by J.K. Rowling!"

"This book is a great start to a potentially brilliant series"

"I loved the bad guys, the graveyard antics, the talking dead, the superpowers of the kick-a** ninja chicks, and the rite of initiation the sisters go through"

When tragedy falls upon 15 year old Daisy Madigan, she escapes to the only place she feels safe, the cemetery of Abney Park. There, in the company of the dearly departed, she realizes she is changing, growing stronger and faster by the day. But in the darkness lurks a terror even she can't imagine facing.

What people are saying about Daisy Madigan's Paradise

"Wonderful addition to the Morgan Sisters series! I might suggest reading The Ghost of Josiah Grimshaw first, but this should stand on its own even if you haven't. Such a lovely, well written story - I highly recommend it and all of her books."

"A fantastically evocative YA novella perfect for both younger and older teens."

It's been a couple of months since Emma and Lana entered the Praxos Academy and life has been hectic ever since. What with regular A level classes combined with learning all about the supernatural world, control classes, self defence and fight night, the girls are constantly busy.
But when their world seems to stop right in front of them, they and their fellow Watchers, have a huge mystery to solve. A mystery which will lead them on a long road trip across south west England where they will meet all kinds of strange creatures, some intent on causing harm and others desperate to put a stop to the problem.

What people are saying about The Temporal Stone

"Suzy has done it again! Her books get better and better.... this had me gripped from the start!"

"Another great read, this is the third Morgan Sisters book I have read and I loved them all. Can't wait for more."

About Molle McGregor

HeadshotRevised2-150x150
Molle’s writing career started when she was seven and suffered terrible insomnia. Night after night she couldn’t sleep until long after mid-night, only to wake a few hours later. Frustrated with her inability to just go to bed, (and her penchant for sneaking a book and a flashlight under the covers) her grandmother said, “You like to read so much, why don’t you tell yourself a story until you fall asleep.” With this brilliant advice, Molle’s overactive brain was off and running. Now, years later, she’s finally taught herself to sleep, but she’s never stopped telling stories.
When she’s not reading, writing, or staring into space making things up, Molle is getting into trouble with her husband, two sons, two dogs and vicious attack cat in the mountains of North Carolina. She likes to hike, cook, listen to music way too loud, and hang out with her boys. She does not like dusting or emptying the dishwasher.

Book Review: Dreaming of the Sea by Heidi Garrett

Dreaming of the Sea
Once Upon a Time Today #2

Heidi Garrett

Contemporary Fairy Tale Retelling
Novella

Amazon

Goodreads Summary

The Sea Witch has abandoned her duties at the bottom of the sea to lead a dissolute life on land. All goes well until the devil visits her luxury suite to remind her she's not getting any younger. He won't take her immortal soul and save her from an eternity of suffering if she doesn't find an apprentice before she dies. The Sea Witch can't allow that to happen; she's committed far too many spiritual crimes. However, the world has changed in the last one-hundred-forty years. No one even believes creatures like her exist.

A young mer prince lives a solitary life exiled from the sea. He serves the Sea Witch as payment for saving the mer kingdom long ago. Now she promises to release him from his debt if he'll help her find an apprentice. He crafts an employment ad to lure the perfect candidate.

Miriam is an unusual young woman. An orphan raised in the confines of a convent, she yearns to contribute something of spiritual value to the world. She comes across an employment ad for a caretaker in a local paper and feels compelled to respond. When she arrives for her interview, the mer prince does his best to dissuade her from taking the position, but suspicious of his motives, she refuses to heed his warnings. By the time she realizes her stubbornness has cost her a love she never imagined could be hers, it's too late. Miriam's faith in herself unravels as her choices take her farther and farther out to sea.

Dreaming of the Sea is a retelling of Han's Christian Andersen's "The Little Mermaid."

The Girl Who Believed in Fairy Tales is a prelude to the Once Upon a Time Today collection and includes the three short stories:
The Girl Who Watched for Elves
The Girl Who Dreamed of Red Shoes
The Girl Who Couldn't Sing

The Once Upon a Time Today novellas:
Beautiful Beautiful
Dreaming of the Sea
The Tree Hugger

My Review: I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review

Dreaming of the Sea is a modern fairy tale set in two worlds: under the sea and our world on land. The first half of the book tells the story of Gia, the sea witch. Sold to the prior sea witch, Gia grows up under the sea as the sea witch's apprentice. When the old sea witch dies, Gia takes over her position. I felt sympathy at times for Gia. She was sold as an infant, so the only life she ever knew was as a sea witch. Her only choice was to sell her soul to the devil or suffer for all of her misdeeds for all eternity.

It's interesting to see things from the villain's perspective. Gia was not a good person, but she grew up only knowing bad. While I liked the first half of the story, there were times when it dragged a bit. That all changed halfway through when we are introduced to Miriam. Miriam had an awful childhood, horribly tragic and sad. But somehow Miriam finds solace through her faith and doing what she feels is right.

I loved Miriam, loved the second half of the story. My heart broke when Miriam had to follow Gia under the sea to become her apprentice. But Miriam made the best of a rotten situation. She didn't let the evil cloud her heart or judgement. The ending is wonderful, and I cried happy tears.

If you like fairy tales, you should definitely add Dreaming of the Sea to your TBR list.

Cover Reveal: Day Human King by B. Kristin McMichael - Excerpt & Giveaway

The Day Human King
Book Two of the Day Human Trilogy

B. Kristin McMichael

Paranormal Fantasy
Lexia Press, LLC.

After he assumed the power of the late sidhe king, Devin thought the battle to protect Nessa and proceed with her coronation was over. Everyone feared him and he had the power to do anything in the sidhe world. He was wrong. As problem after problem arises, Nessa finds the path to the throne is not as simple as they thought. Formalities must be adhered to, preparations must be made, and between all of that, Devin and Nessa must decide what to do with an obviously pregnant Fiona, who will not name the father of her child. To make matters worse, the elite sidhe are still assassinating each other. No one in the palace is safe. Who is behind the latest deaths, and can the coronation actual occur with all the drama going on? Devin and Nessa’s road to power might be cut short if they can’t find the answers.

Excerpt

“We need to dance our way out of here,” Devin replied quietly, still spinning them in circles. “Just follow my lead.”
Nessa wanted to ask more, but Devin dipped her down suddenly with one hand. Pulling her back up, his fist was pressed against her back and was now holding an arrow he grabbed from an assassination attempt. No one saw the invisible arrow, but Devin still held onto it. After a few more quick spins that didn’t allow Nessa to ask more questions, yet brought them five feet closer to the exit, Devin caught a second arrow from a different assassin. The first one was still waiting. Even the assassins didn’t see their own arrows. As they were within ten feet of leaving, Nessa finally protested.
“Devin, what is going on?” she asked, a bit winded from dancing.
‘Not now. I’m trying to save your life,’ Devin answered silently. Nessa’s eyes went big. She obviously hadn’t considered that she was in danger. ‘Now duck,’ he ordered.
Nessa instantly bent down and pretended to adjust the hem of her dress. Devin held out his empty hand to help her stand back up. She smiled and stood, though there was still hesitation in her eyes. She couldn’t see the arrows in his hand. Devin smiled back, and she relaxed a little. Nessa slipped her hands back to his shoulders, and Devin took the lead again, pulling her toward the exit on the opposite side of the room from their table.
‘Dinner, dance, and then done?’ Devin asked, reiterating that they were done. He didn’t expect any kind of protest, but he had to be sure that they fulfilled the role they were supposed to play.
“I have to tell them I’m leaving,” she replied quietly. Devin spun her again before answering.
Devin reached to grab the fourth arrow, but it turned around midflight and hit the assassin that had shot it. Devin didn’t even wait to see what would happen. The last one he had killed turned visible the moment he died. Devin was sure this one was slightly hidden, but would be found quickly enough. They didn’t have time to wait around for the real chaos to begin. Devin stopped dancing and grabbed Nessa’s hand in his free one to pull her the last few feet to the doorway. Nessa seemed about to protest again as Devin briefly stopped. A man standing by the doorway didn’t even notice them, but Devin knew he was the herald that announced their entrance earlier.
“The queen is tired and retiring to her room. She had a lovely time, please be sure to thank all who attended,” Devin told the man. He didn’t wait for a response, turning back to Nessa.
The herald’s eyes grew wide at being addressed by Devin, and even wider as he noticed Nessa by Devin’s side. He quickly bowed to Nessa before hurrying over to the stairs that lead out of the hall and to the vantage point overlooking the crowd. Devin and Nessa followed behind him. The herald turned to face the court attending the ball, and Devin continued to pull Nessa out of the dancing hall. They didn’t stop to listen to the man. When the assassins finally looked up from their weapons, Devin had Nessa out the door before the herald was finished talking, and before anyone could follow them.
“Devin we’re alone,” Nessa replied, out of breath. Devin pulled her down the hallway. Her dainty sidhe shoes clicked on the stone floor, but Devin didn’t stop.
“For now, but I don’t doubt they will follow. At least the three that were still standing when we left,” Devin commented, pulling her in the direction of her room, the only safe place in the palace since they had let sidhe assassins in.
“Assassins?” Nessa asked, horror lining her face.
“Yes, and unless we get back to your room now they will get another chance. I don’t mind my odds at three to one, but I don’t know if they will even fight me or just go for you. And since you can’t see them, I’d prefer you were somewhere safe,” Devin replied, turning and going down another hallway. “Shit,” Devin said quietly. He was scanning the hallways. Just then, he grabbed Nessa and pulled her with him into one of the lover’s alcoves.
“What?” Nessa asked as her eyes grew big, understanding where they were standing.
‘We need to hide and this was the best I could do,’ Devin replied mentally to Nessa.
He pulled her body up against his as he backed into the small space, and her big billowing skirt hid his day human jeans. Devin stood a good six inches taller than Nessa, and he knew his face had to be hidden also. The fuzzy outline of an assassin appeared down the hallway. Devin didn’t say a word to Nessa before he leaned down and kissed her.

INVISIBLE
by DelSheree Gladden

Without warning, catching my breath seems impossible. I don’t know if I can handle the thought that someone might actively be trying to hurt Mason. Before I can stop myself, I feel tears begin sliding down my cheeks. I’m not the only one who feels them. Mason reaches up and touches my face, seeming startled when he realizes I am crying. Not that I can blame him. I’m about as much of a crier as he is.
“Oh, Ollie,” he says softly. His strong, but gentle arms easily pull me out from behind him and nestle me against his body. I curl against him as I try to shut out the fear that is quickly swallowing me up.
“Mason, I can’t bear the thought of losing you,” I whisper against his chest.
His arms press me against him so tightly there is no space left between us. “I’ve already lost one family. I won’t lose you, too.”
The night quiets as we lay in each other’s arms. Slowly, Mason’s breathing calms. As he relaxes, my own fears begin to calm as well. They don’t disappear, but they come down to a manageable enough level that I can think and ask the question lingering in both of our minds.
“Mason, what do we do now?”
He sighs. His fingers stroke my hair softly. “I don’t know. I’m not sure how to get more information out of Robin without telling her the truth.”
“We can’t tell her the truth. We have no idea who she’s really involved with. It’s too big of a risk.”
“I know, but we have to stay close to her, too. If she is a threat, we can’t be blind to it.”
I know he’s right, but I don’t like to think about Mason being so close to someone who could potentially hurt him. But what choice do we have? I look up at Mason and find him already staring down at me with a look of concern. Something about the moment makes my heart lurch. It takes me a few seconds to gather my thoughts.
“Mason, we’ll figure this out,” I promise.
As his fingers brush against my cheek, that strange sensation flashes again, but I am too anxious to pay it much attention.
“Out of everything Robin told us today, do you know what hurt the most?” Mason asks, surprising me by his change in topic. He doesn’t wait for me to answer. “Robin said something like sometimes it’s hard to remember ‘I wasn’t human,’ that I was sent here to be raised by Caretakers. Do you realize what that means? Not only am I not human, my family isn’t even my real family. All of the sudden, I’ve lost another family, one I never knew, maybe one that didn’t even want me to begin with.”
“We’ll find answers, Mason.”
I know it’s not much as far as comfort goes, but I don’t know what else to say. I have no idea why anyone would give up someone as wonderful as Mason. If his biological parents didn’t want him, their stupidity was our gain. I can’t imagine my life without Mason.
I have no idea what time it is, but weariness begins to creep over me. My eyes are starting to close when Mason asks one last question.
“Do you think Robin is right about me not being human?”
A yawn stretches my jaw before I can answer. “I don’t know. Maybe. You are invisible.”
“Does that bother you?” he asks quietly.
My shrug is more of a twitch as sleeps tries to steal me away. “Why would it? I love you no matter where you came from.”
