Review: Twisted Fairy Tales- An Anthology

Review: I received this book from the authors in exchange for an honest review

I love fairy tales-- it's an addiction, and I love to read retellings. This anthology contains a wealth of wonderful short story retellings. Plus the proceeds benefit a great cause-- clearly a win-win for both the charity and the reader.

Twisted is the perfect word to describe these tales, and I loved every minute of it. Different, intriguing, beguiling are just a few words that come to mind. I'm not going to delve into the different stories. They were all quite good and tied together well to create this anthology.

I highly recommend picking up a copy right now. Wonderfully twisted stories that will entertain-- let's just say that I experienced the shortest plane ride in history while lost in this anthology :)

Twisted Fairy Tales:
An Anthology

Authors-Bethany Lopez, Elizabeth Sharp, Erin Danzer, Heather Marie Adkins, J. Laslie, Jill Cooper, K. Laslie, Magan Vernon, Susan Burdorf, Victoria Escobar

To stop a zombie plague, Snow White will need to kill the evil Queen before the last apple falls.

When Veronica Chapman falls into a coma in a horrific car accident, Trigg Chapman has the second chance to rekindle their rocky romance once upon a dream.

A princess cursed, a blind man kidnapped, and The Beast who threatens their happiness.

Aria inherited a century-long battle among the merfolk nations along with the crown, but a tenacious human looking for restitution could change everything.

A sapling of a dying magical tree desires revenge before the flames turn to love and grant Pinocchia her one wish—to be a real girl.

A princess becomes a pauper, but then must fight to save her kingdom.

Leukemia may have stolen Rapunzel's hair but not her dreams.

When Grandma becomes the latest victim in a string of murders, the wolf just might have to be the hero.

Rumpelstilstkin is not the only criminal in the kingdom.

At the stroke of midnight the spell will break, but there's no proof that it's true love.

True Love's Kiss - Jill Cooper (Snow White)

About the Author-
I could write this in the third person. I could tell you what I like, where I was born, and what my favorite things are.

But instead, I'll say I don't want to write like everyone else. I don't want to craft stories you've read a thousand times before. I want my novels to be a cinematic experience, blending themes, genres, and situations unlike any you've ever read.

I want to break the rules. I want you to break out in a cold sweat as you read my books out of fear, love, and excitement. I want my books to be an experience. When you finish, I want you to feel something. Good or bad.

The Only Chance - Magan Vernon (Sleeping Beauty)

About the Author-
Magan Vernon has been living off of reader tears since she wrote her first short story in 2004. She now spends her time killing off fictional characters, pretending to plot while she really just watches Netflix, and she tries to do this all while her two young children run amuck around her Texas ranch.

MerQueen - Heather Marie Adkins (The Little Mermaid)

About the Author-

Heather Marie Adkins loves magick and words, but not necessarily in that order. She worships the moon and stars, and revels in the feel of grass beneath her bare feet. She is the author of numerous titles including Abigail (Witch Faery, Book One); Mother of All (Hedgewitch Mysteries, Book One); and Wiccan Wars, the first book in an occult bestselling trilogy. Heather lives in north-central Kentucky with the love of her life and a house full of cats. Find out more about her at heathermarieadkins.com  and follow her at facebook.com/heathermarieadkins.

The Princess and the Pauper - Erin Danzer (Prince and the Pauper)

About the Author-
Ever since she was small, Erin's imagination has led her to tell stories and create worlds, including the world of Kalearnia (found in the Spiral Defenders series). Her school notebooks were doodled with pictures and writing notes in the margins beside class notes. No scrap of paper was safe from all of Erin's notes and creations. But writing wouldn't pay the bills for a very long time.

Erin spent three summers giving away smiles as she handed out clothes to the working populace of an amusement park. It was the best three summers of her life (also where she met her husband). Since then, Erin has become a mediocre cookie decorator, learned to make a mean pizza in less than two minutes, and has sold dresses as well as window dressings.

When she isn't exploring worlds of her own creation, you can find Erin with her nose stuck in the worlds of others, supporting Indie Authors everywhere, hanging out on Facebook, or spending time with her kids, husband, and their cat. Erin loves connecting with her readers.

Rae of Hope - J. Laslie (Rapunzel)

J. Laslie lives in Louisville, KY with her wonderful husband, two kids, four dogs, three cats and mother-in-law. She has always been an avid reader and now enjoys writing novels of her own.

In her spare time she loves to do digital scrapbooking, hanging out with friends, going to the gun range, or reading a good book. Her favorite genres to read are Young Adult and Young Adult Dystopian. Though she loves a good paranormal or romance novel too.

The Beast Within - Elizabeth Sharp (Red Riding Hood)

About the Author-
Elizabeth Sharp is the pen name used by Donna Dull. A full time mom and part dreamer, Donna is addicted Facebook while still recovering from her Dr. Pepper problem. A self-proclaimed techno geek, she loves cell phones, computers, tablets and all things technological. The internet has to be the greatest invention since the wheel, in her opinion. She lives in a quiet subdivision with her husband, young son, three cats, and far too many electronics. It’s quite possible she has some raccoon in her DNA, because she loves glitter and anything that sparkles. She enjoys making jewelry and costumes. Halloween is her favorite holiday since it’s the one day of the year that you can be whatever you want. But her first love will always be writing. Otherwise, hearing voices in her head would make her feel schizophrenic.
